Jinho “The Piper” Ferreira of Flipsyde Takes “Cops and Robbers” on the Road to Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO - Aug. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- “Cops and Robbers” Piper’s “3-Strike”s Against Violence and Sex-trafficking Shared with Mayor Eduardo Paes’ Cultural Officials

As Hip Hop Mogul Russell Simmons and Actor, Hip Hop Mogul &  Artist, and Producer LL Cool J, launched their new anti-violence project at Ricker’s Island Prison in New York City, Playwright, Hip Hop Artist, Songwriter and Law Enforcement Officer, Jinho “The Piper” Ferreira met with officials of Rio de Janeiro’s Mayor Eduardo Paes to share his “Cops and Robbers” project.  It has been presented to jail inmates and youth groups in the United States as a way to curb violence and teenage sex trafficking through drama therapy.

Sharing the single from his E.P. “Believe,” which portrays a young man fighting the social challenges to join a gang and a teenage prostitute escaping street life, Piper met with Luna Juliana of Eixorio.  Bruno Neele, the Mayor’s Deputy Head of International Relations, expedited the meeting.

“It was great meeting with Piper to talk about the project,” said Luna Juliana International Relationships Advisor of EixoRio Institute that promotes urban culture and arts for Rio de Janeiro.

Piper, an Alameda County Sheriff Deputy, who grew up in Oakland, CA which has received notoriety for violence following the Oscar Grant officer involved shooting, the Occupy Movement, among other violent incidents, hopes “Cops and Robbers” non-violence message, based on his 17 character one man show, will spread to inner cities across the world.

“One of my highest hopes is that “Cops and Robbers” increases dialogue between people especially media, police and inner-city communities,” said Jinho “The Piper” Ferreira.

Piper, who is visiting Rio de Janeiro, his father’s birthplace, released his “three strikes” against violence and sex trafficking: “Cops and Robbers: Past, Present and Future, co-written with his wife educator Dr. Dawn Williams Ferreira (http://www.amazon.com/Cops-Robbers-Past-Present-Future/dp...); “Cops and Robbers-The Audio Experience” (a CD of the one man 17 character play, “Cops and Robbers”); and “Cops and Robbers, The E.P. are the elements of his three part project that was released last May.

The regular run of “Cops and Robbers” the play will be August 8- September 13 at the Marsh Theater in Berkeley, weekends only, to accommodate Piper’s work schedule at the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department in Oakland, CA.

Co-authoring a book with his wife, educator, Dr. Dawn Williams Ferreira, “Cops and Robbers: Past Present and Future,” Piper released his “three strikes against violence and sex trafficking” in May 2014 as the book, a CD of the Play and an EP with single “Believe” were released.  “Believe” debuted at the San Francisco Black Film Festival.

Though Piper is not a stranger to the stage, “Cops and Robbers” is his first venture into theater.  The ingenuity of his play lead him to being selected as a scholarship recipient for a performance workshop with Anna Deavere Smith at the Yerba Buena Arts Center.
